Have you ever thought about changing your career? Have you ever imagined you will be better off if you had a chance to restart? I’ve found myself asking the same questions over the years.

I was part of tech winter and it made finding a new role within the industry challenging, but it also unexpectedly presented an opportunity. The free time I had allowed me to explore new possibilities, things I wouldn’t have dared to before. Little did I know, this period of reflection would also lead to a personal transformation.

My early career was a whirlwind of fast-paced learning and late nights in a tech startup. I stepped into Product Management, a world completely unfamiliar to me as a Marketing student. The learning curve was steep, filled with new-languages and industry nuances I didn’t understand. Each day felt like playing catch-up, trying to decipher with experienced colleagues. Despite the initial challenges, I persevered for six years in product management. Although I felt lost and behind at first, I was grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow. It wasn’t easy, often feeling lonely and out of the loop. However, with a year of dedicated learning and effort, I gradually gained the knowledge and confidence to stand on my own.

As I looked back on my journey in product management, I began to wonder if there was more out there for me, I might need to explore as I wonder and I wish for a year. I couldn’t shake the feeling that maybe it’s time for a new kickstart. Six years in product management had provided me with valuable skills and experiences, but I couldn’t help but wonder if it was time for a change. The idea of trying something different began to appeal to me, igniting a sense of curiosity and excitement for what the future might hold.

Feeling a strong sense, I decided to take a chance and explore career options outside of tech startups. My experience in that field, combined with a newfound sense of purpose, motivated me to cast a wider net. Consulting, a field I’ve always admired, caught my eye and I started exploring opportunities there. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to align my skills with different industries and roles, leveraging what I’ve learned so far.

It wasn’t easy. I felt nervous and unsure of myself at times, but hey! I was there before so nothing to be afraid of. I kept pushing forward, applying for jobs and going to interviews. The transition was not without its challenges. Stepping into unfamiliar territory, I found myself grappling with imposter syndrome and self-doubt. Yet, with each application submitted and interview attended, I felt a renewed sense of excitement and possibility.

Then, out of the blue, I got an offer from one of the Big 4 consulting firms — a company I’d always dreamed of working for. I was over the moon and accepted the offer right away. Accepting the offer was a moment of pure elation, as I realized that my hard work and perseverance had paid off. Walking through the doors of that prestigious firm, I knew my life was about to change. Looking back, I’m grateful for the twists and turns that led me here. And I can’t wait to see where this new adventure takes me.

Now, as I set out on a new path in consulting, I’m filled with excitement and determination. Each challenge has prepared me for this moment, and I’m eager to keep learning and growing as I move forward. With gratitude for the past and enthusiasm for the future, I’m ready to embrace the opportunities that await.
